Local AttractionsWithin just a couple of
miles of our home, you will find a wealth of historical places to visit. Nearby
lies the "Hill of Tara" - home to the Kings of Ireland until the 11th
Century. Also in the vicinity, the remains of Bective Abbey and the ancestral
home of the Dunsany Family, Dunsany Castle ( above right ) can be visited. Both
of these featured in the "Braveheart" movie as did the famous Trim Castle
(also know as King John's Castle - above left). Tours of Trim Castle are available
all year round while Dunsany Castle is open to visitors during the Summer months. In
the town of Kells is to be found the famous High Cross of Kells while the passage
graves of Nowth, Dowth and Newgrange are also located nearby.
Local ActivitiesRoyal Tara and Trim Golf Club's are both
5 minutes from our home and there are six more courses close by, both links and
inland. For the novice and keen fisherman alike, County Meath is a angler's paradise
with both sea and coarse fishing to be found locally. Other leisure pursuits
include horse racing at the nearby Fairyhouse Racecourse, host to the Irish Grand
National. For the more horticulturally minded, take a visit to the various Meath
Gardens, including the nearby Butterstream Gardens which has been visited by HRH
Prince Charles. Country walks in the Loughrew Hills as well as along The Boyne
Way should be enjoyed before sitting down to dine in any one of the county's fine
restaurants. |
